The Seventh Watch (12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.)

Updated: Jun 22

This is the time that marks the beginning of midday, also known as noon, the sixth hour, or the fullness of the day. It is at this time of day that the sun is usually at its hottest and brightest. Midday is a time of rest and seeking the Lord. The Psalmist in Psalm 62:5 declares, "my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him."

This was the time that Christ was still on the cross, atoning for the sins of the world and restoring the way to man's covenant relationship with God, when darkness enveloped the land. "From noon until three in the afternoon, darkness came over all the land. About three in the afternoon, Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani? (which means "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Now from the sixth hour, there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour" (Matthew 27:45–46).

In addition, Peter had a vision of the clean and impure animals, which God used to inform Peter that the Gentiles were included in God’s redemptive plan. "About noon the following day, as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray" (Acts 10:9–16).

The Psalmist declares, "evening, morning, and at noon, I will pray and cry aloud, and he shall hear my voice. He has delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me, for there were many with me (Psalm 55:17–18).

Prayer

Father, like Peter, I come to seek your face and wisdom. Lord, let this time in Your presence bring clarity and revelation of Your will and purpose concerning my life, family, and ministry. Lord, release divine strategy to do Your will (Acts 10:9).

Father, I chose to dwell in the secret place of the Most High, abiding under the shadow of the Almighty and making the Most High my habitation (Psalm 91).

Father, I repent for all sins that I have committed, knowingly and unknowingly. Lord, let my path be as a shining light, shining more and more unto the perfect day. Let the way of the wicked be as darkness causes those that rise up against your will in my life to stumble. (Proverbs 4:18–9).

Father, I am inclining my ears unto Your Word, I will not let them depart from my eyes and will keep them in my heart. Your words, Father, are life to me and health to my flesh. In my obedience, Lord, let my peace be like a river and my righteousness like waves of the sea (Isaiah 48:18).

Lord, help me to keep my heart with all diligence. In the Name of Jesus, I put away all deceitful, lying, and misleading communication. Let my eyes, Father, be focused on the path You have set for me with moral courage. Let my gaze be fixed straight in front of me toward the path of integrity.

Father, let my daily bread manifest and the fruit of my good labor be great. Cause that the fullness of the day yields its best and most precious fruits to my family and me. Lord, remember me for good and cause my life to be bright. Lord, grant me wisdom, for "those who are wise will shine as bright as the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever" (Daniel 12:3, NLT).

Lord, thank you for keeping me safe from the destruction that stalks at noon. Lead us not into temptation, and cause that we shall escape from every snare of the enemy. Lord, cut off all satanic arrows that are released at this time against Your plans for my life. Let your justice manifest in my life in Jesus' Name. Amen
