The Fast that sets You Free Part 1!

Updated: Jun 27, 2020

Isaiah 58:6 the God-ordained fast: "Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed, free and break every yoke?"

Our fasting in the Lord should:

"loose the bands of wickedness:" during the period of fasting we must engage in works of justice and charity taking care of the needy and blessing the kingdom of God as the Holy Spirit leads. We should avoid and repent of all unjust and unlawful actions or obligations in ourselves/bloodline; church; workplace; and Nation that bonds, as the Holy Spirit leads.

"let the oppressed go free ..... and break every yoke:" — during this period of fasting, we should renounce and pray against the spirits of usury, bondage, cruel usage; pray to set the captive free especially those that have wrongfully imprisoned or entangled. Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible states that the fast should break every yoke; of church power and tyranny; everything that is not enjoined and authorized by the word of God shall be broken; every yoke but the yoke of Christ shall be broken; all human precepts and obedience to them shall be broken; all but the commands of Christ, and obedience to them; no other yoke should be put upon the neck of his disciples but his own."

We are not implying that the above should not be our daily prayer focus as believers but we highlight that this is what God wants us to focus on as the motive during our time of prayer and fasting and not from a standpoint of personal motives. Jesus said in Matthew 6:33 (ESV) "seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you." My Friends, as you fast, focus on the things of the kingdom as God instructed and all things which God knows you need will manifest according to His Word. There is a direct link between what God has instructed us to do as we fast and the manifestation of our needs/blessings.
