Prayer Watches

It is the will of God for us to pray; "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.

We are directed in Colossians 4:2 to "Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it (prayer) with thanksgiving."

It is important as believers in Christ that we are mindful of the times and seasons, especially in prayer.

God wants us to develop the good habit of "Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication, keeping us alert with all perseverance so that we can make supplication for all the saints" (Ephesians 6:18). To do this, we must be aware of the times and understand the different prayer watches.

As we watch over our families, cities, and nations we not only watch for the enemy’s activity but also for the manifestation of God’s plans.

We must watch in prayer as commanded in Matthew 24:42 -43 “Therefore keep watch because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into." Because we do not know the time or hour that God will return or when the enemy will strike we must stay in readiness in prayer, blocking the enemy's access to our lives and the manifestation of God's will. Knowing the watches of prayer keeps us in spiritual readiness and maintain the hedge of protection around us.

There are Eight Prayer Watches

The First Watch: 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Time of quiet reflection and covenant renewal with God, repenting sin. Jesus used the evening watch to go aside and pray (Matt. 14:15-23). During this watch, ask God to give you clear directions for the day ahead and about His call on your life. Time to Pray and release judgement on the plans of the enemy, cancelling curses on our lives, family, church, city and nation.

The Second Watch: 9:00 p.m. to midnight. Time to silence the enemy. Ps. 119:62 says, “At midnight I will rise to give thanks to You because of Your righteous judgments.” Pray for God's protection; divine judgement and favour; deliverance; pray for the economy and education, church and nation. Pray for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit; tear down walls of darkness and wicked strongholds. “Let God arise and His enemies be scattered.”

The Third Watch: to 3:00 a.m. is a period of much spiritual activity. It is a time to pray to fortify yourself against doubt and unbelief and continue to seek direction from God. Be vigilant during this time and watch for God’s revelation for breakthrough of His plans and purposes for your life and territory. This is the time to aggressively pray against satanic attacks on your life; family; church; and community; declare Psalm 91:5-10 for divine protection; command the morning; confront every storm of distractions and destruction that is robbing you of God's blessings. Time to enter the Courts of Heaven.

The Fourth watch: 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. "You will also declare a thing and it will be established for you: and light will shine on your ways.” (Job 22:27-28). Time to establish the will of God in your life against the plans of the enemy; establishing the spirit of prosperity; stopping the devil from hijacking blessings and favour by speaking the word of God in your situation. This is the time to press in, in prayer and destroy the enemy's plans through the resurrection power of Jesus Christ. "the Kingdom of Heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.." Matthew 11:12

The Fifth Watch: 6:00 a.m to 9:00 a.m. This is a time of Deliverance, a time of renewal of mind body and soul and out pouring of the Holy Spirit. Pray for spiritual, mental and physical healing for self, family and nation. Pray for God to heal the hearts of the people; time of thanksgiving and worship.

The Sixth Watch: 9:00 a.m. to noon. Time of releasing and receiving our harvest. This is a time of reflection on the power of the cross, continue to repent and seek cleansing by the blood of Jesus. Accept the finished work of the cross and decclare its manifestation. Pray for God’s redemptive purposes in your life and region and watch how He answers your prayer during this time.

The Seventh Watch: noon to 3:00 p.m. Pray for the Glory of the Lord to manifest in your life. Pray not to be led into any temptation, trap or snare of the enemy. Pray and cut off all satanic arrows that are released at noonday.

The Eighth Watch: 3:00-6:00 p.m. The Transformation Watch. The time of dying to self and rejoicing in the Power of Jesus Christ. A time to continue to receive divine revelation, grace and power. A time of triumph as we seek God's truth as His Kingdom is established through prayer.

Today more than ever it is important that the watchmen of God, stay sober and vigilant."
