Understanding Spiritual Covenants

Updated: Jun 22

Covenants are like contracts, treaties, and wills. Each covenant creates a relationship's foundation, circumstances, promises, and repercussions for noncompliance. In Exodus 19-24, God makes a covenant with Israel at Mt. Sinai after freeing them from Egypt.

God's Law governs and shapes Israel in the Promised Land. This Law would designate the people as a kingdom of priests (Exodus 19:1-7). This conditional covenant prescribed blessings and curses dependent on faithfulness or disobedience (Deuteronomy 28-29).

When God spoke in Deuteronomy 28: 1-2 (KJV), "And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God." God created a covenant/agreement with the following conditions

  • relationship foundation established through obedience to the voice of God. Deuteronomy 28: 1, "And it shall come to pass if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God." the circumstances: "observe and do all his commandments"

  • promises: "The Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth. 2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee."

  • repercussions for noncompliance or breaking the covenant. Deuteronomy 28:15 "But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee."

The release or activation of blessings or curses in our lives is governed by the acts of obedience or disobedience, which form covenants or agreements. The act of obedience to the laws of God activates the covenant of blessings in Deuteronomy 28. When believers obey the Word of God, the Power of the Holy Spirit is activated, and an agreement is established for the believer to receive blessings.

Disobedience to God's Laws, known as sin, activates curses. Whether the sin is known or unknown, personal or bloodline, or via a soul tie, a covenant would have been activated and familiar spirits assigned to ensure the actions, words, and thoughts of a bloodline follow the covenant of that particular sin until it is challenged and broken. For example, if God's Law, according to Leviticus 19:11 KJV, "Ye shall not lie one to another, "is broken and goes un-repented in a bloodline, patterns of this sin would be repeated with consequences because of the agreement that was established when the sin first took place.

In other words, the circumstances were established for the practice of disobedience to the word of God via sin. An example of this is seen in Abraham's bloodline; Abraham deceived Abimelech Gen 12 and 20). Isaac (Abraham's son from Sarah) deceived the second Abimelech (Gen 26). Jacob (Abraham's grandson) deceived Isaac, his father (Gen 27); Laban, the uncle of Jacob, deceived him (Gen 29).

Abraham's actions established an agreement with the sin of deceit that continued in his bloodline. It is true today that some persons are following the sinful patterns of their parents or ancestors based on covenants that were established through sin, whether known or unknown. Also, note that any organizations you joined or worked for would have formed covenants with you the day you joined or started working for them, especially when written contracts were signed.

We must always remember that we are triune beings: we are spirits with souls that live in bodies; hence whatever we engage in, in life affects and links to us physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We may walk away from a relationship, organization, or situation physically, but we also must disconnect emotionally and spiritually for total freedom from all covenants that may have been forged knowingly or unknowingly.

The prayer below releases us from the error and sins of ourselves, our parents, and our ancestors or other persons that have established covenants that have been manipulating our lives, causing negative patterns of sin.

Prayer

By the great Power in the Blood of Jesus, I break all contracts and curses that bring me adversity, misery, tears, and sorrow. I declare that the Power of Jesus cut them all from my life and my family. By the Blood of Jesus, I dislodge every demonic family altar and its covenants that speak against my destiny: my siblings, mother, father, children, and spouse.

I decree perpetual silence over every power of darkness, operating wicked covenant in my life and family line. Father God, let them all be arrested and overcome by the blood of Jesus. I apply the Blood of Jesus against every evil family captivity enforced by covenants keeping my destiny back. I break open and lose myself and my family, free by the Blood of Jesus.

Father in Heaven, by the Power of Jesus's Blood, remove and break every wicked covenant between any evil altar and my life. By the fire of the Holy Ghost, I break all covenants and contracts my father or mother made ignorantly in the past through which I was initiated into infirmity or failure or covenants made in my lineage by my ancestors with the devil.

Jesus became a curse for me. I acknowledge that I am redeemed from the curse of the law as your word says in Galatians chapter 3 verse 13: Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law. He that hung on a tree is cursed. To receive the promise of the spirit through faith, I stand firm in your word and decree and declare that curses no longer have power over me or my family in the Name of Jesus Christ.

I choose to walk in the freedom Christ bought for me and my family, breaking every curse spoken, written, or transferred to me. Thank you, Lord, for dying for my sins, resurrecting me, and making me a new creation in Christ Jesus by faith in Your Precious Blood in the Name of Jesus Christ.

I revoke any harmful curses on my life and family in the Name of Jesus. In the Mighty Name of Jesus, I flush away every evil mark and incision from the covenant with any malicious spirit from my bloodstream or agents of satan. In the Name of Jesus, I command all unclean spirits to leave my life.

Jeremiah 15:21 says I will free thee from the wicked and redeem thee from the awful. Father, the Promise in Your Word be release me and my family from every evil curse from my ancestors and evil people in the Name of Jesus Christ. It is written in 2 Timothy 4:17-18 "The Lord stood with me and strengthened me, and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. 18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work and preserve me unto His heavenly Kingdom, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen."
