In the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. 1 John 1
The Gospel of John clearly illustrates that Jesus Christ is “The Word” coming from the Greek “Logos,” meaning: “word,” “reason,” or “plan.” In Greek philosophy and early Christian theology, it means the divine reason implicit in the universe, ordering it and giving it form and meaning.
The book of John establishes in this verse that Jesus Christ, the “Word” the Son of God, was sent to humanity to bring revelation of the Father who sent Him. John 20:30–31: “Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and that by believing you may have life in his name.” The book and its introduction establishes the understanding and believe in Christ (the WORD) so that we may believe in the WORD (God) and have eternal life. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
We cannot know God our Father without first knowing Jesus; “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” John 1:14. Jesus Christ, the indispensable Word of God, was sent in the flesh and dwelt among men. His ministry involved healing physically and spiritually being the physician of souls with the pardon of sin, for which He shed His blood.
When Christ the Word in the flesh left us, he left the Word in the form of the Holy Spirit, who continues to give us the revelation of God. (1 John 2:27) Without God’s Spirit, we cannot and do not have a full understanding of the spiritual implications and application of biblical truth. We may grasp the thoughts but miss the spirit, and miss the life-changing purpose, and power behind the Word.
In accepting and speaking the Word of God, we are actively “establishing Jesus” under the Holy Spirit’s power into our lives and situations, which translates to the manifestation of God’s Grace and Truth with all its Glory and Power. “He sent out his Word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind. When we use the Word of God base on this revelation, it brings healing and deliverance.” Psalm 107:20-21
It has become fashionable to use the Word of God like “slogans” or “pacifiers” without any knowledge of the Holy Spirit’s power, resulting in no practical solutions. Too often, we are pumped up with faith affirmations but not taught the Word of God that brings freedom. We make the faith affirmation and feel good, but sometimes we are still clueless about what to do in our situation.
God’s Word is never void; it is never empty of hope or a plan or revelation. We must stop speaking the Word of God without the power; to fully exercise power in the Word is to fully know the “Word” which is Jesus.
